Poisoned Pedigree by GG Vandagriff

Poisoned Pedigree by GG Vandagriff

In this fourth installment of the Alex and Briggie Genealogy murder mysteries, we come across a purported curse in the McHenry ancestry in the deep Missouri Ozarks. We even hear of a Mormon Missionary lynching in the mid 1800's that centers around the mystery. Amidst drugs, kidnapping, murder and the townsfolk keeping a lid on things, it takes Alex and Briggie getting bonked and knocked around, to solve the centuries old mystery. When both Charles and Daniel vie for Alex's affection, it's a bit more than Alex can handle. When Alex and Briggie and the Keeper get roughed up to keep secrets buried, Alex is wondering if it's best to just drop the case and head back home. If you're like me and into Genealogy bigtime, this is the book for you. I will be awaiting the next adventure from our RootSearch, Inc sleuths.

Traitor by Sandra Grey

Traitor by Sandra Grey

A good friend loaned me this book, which I had heard of, but not known a thing about. Once into this outstanding novel in every way, I could not put it down!!! This book takes a hold of you and takes you on a roller coaster ride you will never forget. The story begins with Marie Jacobsen parachuting into enemy lines in war torn France and Germany during World War 2. She is a young woman born in France, but raised in Utah, but now she's a spy working with the Resistance and getting to see her fiance, but she gets captured by the Gestapo and fears for her life. Since the sequel comes out 5 Jan, I don't have long to wait to see what happens next. As you can see, I ABSOLUTELY loved this first time author's novel from the get-go. I would advise everyone to run to their nearest bookstore, amazon or library to read this most exciting, riveting novel. If this novel doesn't win the Whitney, there is no mercy.

Massacre At Mountain Meadows by Ronald W. Walker, Richard E. Turley, Glen M. Leonard

Massacre At Mountain Meadows by Ronald W. Walker, Richard E. Turley, Jr., Glen M. Leonard

In this new, more complete and accurate telling of a most misunderstood time in Mormon History, we get to get inside the researchers/authors heads to understand how this most horrific tragedy occurred and why. The authors take us back to the early days of The Church, when we were persecuted for our beliefs and driven from their homes, women even raped. In the mid 19th Century, times were rough on the trail for the Mormons, having to contend with Indians, the elements, disease, the Military and all they could think of was getting to the Salt Lake Valley. This horrible tragedy took the lives of 120 men, women and children as they were gunned down execution style. For the Mormon people, they were afraid for their lives when emigrants came through their setlements on their way to California. These emigrants would taunt and threaten the Mormons and were worried about the soldiers coming to stir up things. It wasn't until I was reading the names of the Militiamen, that I found that two of my ancestors were involved. Luckily, they were not involved in any of the murders. This is the third book on this subject and feel this current rendition is the best by far, as it doesn't try to sugarcoat what happened or point fingers. If you haven't heard of this tragedy, I would recommend you read this book. It's a riveting story, one you couldn't imagine happening. It's interesting that the date this occured was 9/11, but in 1857.

Reflections Of Christ

Reflections Of Christ by Gary Mabry

For the Christmas season, we get this amazing photographic montage of Christ's ministry. The images of Mark's work are breathtaking. In the introduction, Gary tells us how he came to create these miraculous, soul-stirring images and at the back of the book, he describes each photograph and how each came to be and the comments from the individuals he used as to their feelings. Gary has music to go with this book and his exhibit is on display throughout the country. This is a book that would make a great coffee table book.

The Miracle Of The Wooden Shoes

The Miracle Of The Wooden Shoes by Deborah Pace Rowley

This new Christmas story will become a classic for those who enjoy a spiritual odyssey with finding out how much Our Savior Jesus Christ loves us. This oversize book has wonderful pictures that tells the story of a ten year old boy finding special gifts at Christmas inside his wooden shoes, which is a German tradition. This boy Walter is mystified on who has left the gifts and then one day, two missionaries appear at his door to bring the news of Jesus Christ to this family and to bring hope to this family and to heal Walter's ailing father. There are traditions in the book to try for Christmas. And, I will be giving this touching book to my granddaughter this Christmas. It even has a place in front for writing a child's name.

Wet Desert by Gary Hansen

Wet Desert by Gary Hansen

This novel, which was a finalist in The Whitney's this March, well earned that recognition, as this novel hits with a resounding bang!!! The action is non stopping and it comes to a loud climax. The story begins with a twisted environmentalist, bombing several of the dams along the Colorado River, attempting to restore the Colorado River. It takes Grant Stevens, a mid-level manager for the Bureau of Reclamation, to try and stay one step ahead of the bomber and attempt to find out why he is doing this. This is a great book for learning about the Colorado River, about the intricacies of dams and the damage and destruction that the River does by being unleashed. We see how ineffective beaucracy can be in situations like this. We see the heroes who step up to the plate to save lives and see how everyday people handle these grave situations. If you want a roller-coaster ride down the Colorado River down to the Mexican border, you'll love this thrilling page turner. I highly recommend this fascinating novel to everyone.
