Welcome to the Book Review blog of the LDS Forever Friends Email Group. This is where you'll book reviews of every book we read. Orson F. Whitney said, "We will yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own. God's ammunition is not exhausted. His brightest spirits are held in reserve for the latter times. In God's name and by his help we will build up a literature whose top shall touch heaven, though its foundations may now be low in earth."

Might As Well Laugh About It Now by Marie Osmond
Might As Well Laugh About It by Marie Osmond
Last Saturday, when our oldest daughter Mary was visiting us, she asked if I'd read Marie's book and I said no, that our library had it and would read it. She said she would leave it for me to read, as she'd just bought it and knew I'd have it read before she could, as she was reading my Donny Autobiography. When I got up the next morning to read my e-mail, Marie's NEW book was sitting on top of my other books!!!! I had no idea she had a new book out!!! After starting this book, I'd read two VERY negative comments about this book on Goodreads and after finishiung the book earlier today, found nothing negative that Marie had said that this one young lady had purported Marie as saying.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed Marie's introspective looks into her life and how she laughs at life's little foibles. Marie looks at life the way I do, always looking at the good in everything and everyone. Marie shares her outlook on how she handled her passing out on Dancing With The Stars, her house fire, her managing her hectic life being a mother of 8 children, how much she loves her children, the devastation she felt at losing her parents, her divorce and her battle with Bulimia. If you want to read how Marie uses laughter to get through life's biggest struggles, do yourself a favor and pick this delightful and poignant book up. You'll be glad you did.

The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers by Lilian Jackson Braun
The Cat Who Had 60 Whiskers #29 by Lilian Jackson Braun
In the last installment of the capers of Qwill, Koko and Yum Yum, we find a new Senior Center in the works and a frisky rendition of CATS is set to thrill the residents of Moose County. Polly is off for a 2 week sojurn to Paris with another female friend, leaving the Apple Barn without concerts. The Librarians Who Lunch are ready to put on a show of their spectacular Art Hats to unite the residents of Pickax and Lockmaster. Everyone except Koko is baffled by the mysterious death by bee sting of a resident. The quirkiness of these townsfolk make these books utterly charming.

The Cat Who Dropped A Bombshell by Lilian Jackson Braun
The Cat Who Dropped A Bombshell #28 by Lilian Jackson Braun
This latest offering of Qwill, Koko and Yum Yum and all their friends of Pickax are back in another charming tale. The residents are eagerly awaiting Pickax Now, a festival with parades and exhibits celebrating 150 years. Qwill brings archtect Harvey Ledfield into his home to sketch his huge apple barn and when strange things start happening with Harvey around, especially when Koko lands on top of Harvey's head, which Koko had never done before. Harvey's aunt and uncle have not been seen since Harvey's arrival. A woman from California, apparantly in Pickax to bid on a kitty at the kitty auction, leaves a mysterious note for Qwill before leaving. A sudden hurricane causes Qwill and the cats to move back to The Village to weather the storm and Koko sends out her ever-ready YOWL, which means a murder is or is about to occur nearby or not so nearby. This volume has a postscript at the end of the story, not to be missed. I highly recommend this volume, it is a charmer. I enjoy Qwill's limericks and the stories about the townsfolk and the mouth-watering food mentioned in each volume. I highly recommend the two Cat Who Cookbooks to go along with all the books.

The Cat Who Went Bananas by Lilian Jackson Braun
The Cat Who Went Bananas #27 by Lilian Jackson Braun
In this latest from Lilian, we find Pickax in the midst of their opening of the theatrical production, the town is celebrating the opening of the new bookstore that is replacing the old one. Polly is the new owner and this causes a rift in Qwill's and Polly's relationship. There is much ado about the new marmalade cat, Dundee, that is the bookstore's new mascot. Koko keeps flipping banana peels to the floor, Qwill is frustrated about this monstrosity of an old wooden mansion on top of a hill, but is bewitched by the owner of the mansion and has help with getting stories to write on about this mansion. With the weather turning colder and the high cost of heating his 4 story (40 ft. ceilings) apple barn, Qwill makes plans to move to his condo next to Polly and other friends for the winter. He is suscpicious of the mysterious death of an actor in the play and some other unexplained deaths in Lockmaster. I thoroughly enjoyed this offering and highly recommend this one. It's much better than the two previous I just read. And, if you're wondering how many Cat Who books there are, there are two more with a new one on its way next month.
